Flying Bridge Man at KURA centres on Frederik Molenschot’s ongoing Bridge series, in which the bridge serves as both a physical structure and a symbol of connection and exchange. Inspired by the structural rhythms of bridges in the Dutch landscape, Molenschot developed the recurring Bridge Pattern, which he translates into different materials, scales, and forms.

The exhibition builds on Bridge Man, his large-scale outdoor sculpture permanently installed at Rosewood Miyakojima. For Flying Bridge Man, Molenschot is developing abstract sculptural kites based on the Bridge Pattern. Presented alongside bronze Bridge Pattern objects, the Bridge Man suit and related works, the kites establish a visual connection between Miyakojima and Tokyo. The exhibition brings together three settings within the same body of work: the Dutch landscape where the pattern originated, the island of Miyakojima, and the city of Tokyo.
