A Little Welcome for USN KURA

A Little Welcome for USN KURA

Dear website comers,

It’s long past due date for us to explain and welcome you to our new space the KURA. The KURA (a very nice tin barn on top of our offices with great windows) was renovated last year to house more exhibitions but the KURA now goes beyond a typical gallery. With four white walls you might find us quite similar but have a peek at our schedule and you’ll find we are bringing in a haven of new activities and events. We will no longer be classing ourselves as a gallery but a creative space.

On top of exhibitions flipping every 3 weeks we now have markets that happen every 3 months which hosts a variety of fun objects, foods and performance. Our first which just happened saw jewellery designers, Japan Australia United who brought us a variety of great smells, a florist who made her own ceramics and so much more. Imagine 150 people rolling through on a 28 degree day, an ice cold beer in hand all catching up on a rooftop - it was heaven. Then we have our first Supper Club organised for June, which will bring 20 people together to have a sit down dinner with artist talk. (If you’re interested in joining please contact us). What could be better dinner and art.

Amongst markets and Supper Clubs we’re curating a few more unique events, a live saxophonist with projection mapping, a spoken word night (when was the last time you saw that in Tokyo!), and upcoming dance event that celebrates the full moon (a little hippy but actually very sophisticated).

We want the Kura to be a home, a home people can come to to find out the latest information on, not just at UltraSuperNew KURA but also what our friends and community is up to. A place where you think to come to, to buy a gift for a friend. A place to go through your portfolio and ask for advice or just a place to come and hangout with a drink and to watch sunset. Everyone (in theory! Only nice people allowed) is welcome!

The KURA will be updating our shop too, so little be little we plan to have books, jewellery, postcards, objects of various shapes and sizes, and obviously the compulsory merch but everything will be from creatives we have worked with, are friends with or absolutely love and must have!

So there is a little update on what the KURA is up to! If you have any ideas, or want to participate please get in touch, we are fine tuning so it might not always be a yes but we can always work towards something together.

Thank you for reading my rambles and hope to see you all at some point!

Thank you,

Eleanor x
