Where Unseen Things Seeps Forth Poems

Where Unseen Things Seeps Forth Poems

On April 11th, we gladly hosted a poetry day with Tokyo Poetry Week. During their time here, the poets created work inspired by paintings by Barbara Penhouet and Bastien Marienne in their exhibition  at the KURA, Where Unseen Things Seeps Forth.

Not a poem, just a bite

In the chambers of my past summers
fruits of memory aglow -&
life is juice streaking down my neck
Meeting the salt of my skin

- Zoria P.K.

The hole in the net —
we tore it open, my brother and I
beneath the opal twilight sky
and the brush spirits dance
and they ask why we ripped such flesh,
my brother and I, we pulled apart
delicately hanging mesh, all for our fun
at the end of summer. But we tore
at the lines with great care
as if we guarded something there…

-Eric Margolis

We ran to grow up
Not knowing we could hold the sun
only with unburnt hands

- Haiku from Zoria P.K.

A Lost Ball

watered orange evening and
a rescue of knightly proportions
I keep feather still
among a broomy nest of leaves

here they come
my boy knights

they have joined together for me
not one lost boy
bonded and loved
they draw up my willowy curtain
to bring me home
in boyish arms

- Louise Eleanor

Soft cheek solar flare slowly singes our threads
And you turn away looking lovely as ever
While the sun’s fingers affectionately caress your face
The way mine used to

I went too far
Icarus' hubris reversed
a hand in a glove too small
too much gravity

a desperate dash
hope in the distance
faint like the glimmer of stars
in a city's sky soaked with light

thought out of reach
but the heart is a stubborn beast
eyes of water, drowned close
yet smiling, at peace

- Diletta F.

Copper People

I am more surprised that
she liked painting on Copper because of
the way the light bounces on the frame?
(On their skin?)

People like these exist where I'm from

The rain, the Heavy Battering
Grey
Grimy, The Rot
The Rust

Is it the air of Provence or The Swelter of the Tropics that finally Destroys?

- Bom

I’ve been hemorrhaging time.
The weight of the world collapses my bones and dries up my soul.

I find myself at the edge of the shore, stripped naked and bare.
I immerse myself in the vivid waters and let rainbow waves buoy and hold me.

Slowly, slower, slow.

I hold my breath ready to go under in search of it.

Everything and nothing.

Stillness.

- Stephanie
