Stephen Kissick is a ceramic artist from Northern Ireland, with a focus on natural materials like clay and wood. After studying ceramics in Mashiko, Japan, he moved to Tokyo, where he now teaches and creates ceramics in a small studio.
His work is inspired by both the natural world and the vibrant, urban energy of Tokyo, exploring texture, colour, and form.
Tokyo is a city that often feels both restrictive and liberating, a duality that influences my ceramics practice. Living in a small apartment limits the size and volume of my work, and it's nearly impossible to carry out wood firings in the city. But at the same time, Tokyo's visual energy, its juxtaposition of tradition and modernity, and its relentless pursuit of creativity have had a profound impact on me.
