Two Visions, One Spirit: Boussandel & Takeuchi Explore the Depths of Yūgen

We are pleased to announce an exhibition by Béchir Boussandel & Yudai Takeuchi on April 18th (Frid.) up to May 03 (Sat.) exploring the essence of the Japanese word 幽玄 [Yūgen] .The French-Tunisian and Japanese artworks showcasing a powerful call to reconnect with the essence of our existence. Under the patronage of Tunisia's embassy in Japan.

In association with RHK STUDIO, - In our increasingly technology-driven society, where the rapid pace of progress often overshadows the gentle whispers of nature, a compelling voice emerges, demanding to be heard. One such concept is “Yugen” (幽 玄). Yugen is more than an aesthetic response; it is a reminder of our evolutionary ties to the natural world, a call to honor our intrinsic relationship with nature. This ground-breaking exhibition unveils Boussandel’s works for the first time in Japan, a visual symphony that draws attention to the hidden splendor of Tunisian desert. His art serves as both a testament to nature’s resilience and a heartfelt plea for us to pay closer attention to its delicate existence. Whereas Japanese artist Yudai Takeuchi explores humanity's enigmatic connection to the broader of daylife, the sad beauty of human suffering, delving into themes that are often beyond his reach of language.

This exhibition weaves a narrative that immerses us in the ethereal beauty of the world. Both artists evoke feelings of awe, wonder, and a sense of the vastness and mystery of existence, inviting us to re-establish our connection with a realm we have grown distant from.

Yudai Takeuchi

TAKEUCHI is an artist who creates visual narratives that oscillate between the intimate and the abstract, weaving together memory and composition. His artistic approach magnifies ordinary moments, transforming them into layered compositions that transcend their everyday origins, akin to a close-up, slow-motion lens. These reimagined actions, stripped of their original context and distilled to their essence on canvas, evoke a sense of nearness, like a whispered secret. After three years of preparation post-high school, TAKEUCHI began his full-fledged art career following his 2022 entrance exams. He produces two-dimensional works on themes inspired by his origins and sexuality, employing both oil paintings and, more recently, pencil and watercolor in his expanding body of work.

Béchir Boussandel

Béchir Boussandel, born in 1984 in Saint-Pol-sur-Mer, France, is an artist who divides his time between Paris and Tunis. A graduate of the Art College of Dunkerque, he explores the complexities of perspective in his painting, often employing a bird's-eye view on canvases that evoke both earthly and astral qualities. His works feature isolated elements that engage in dialogue without direct contact, acting as both personal reminiscences and symbolic transpositions. Constantly balancing figuration and abstraction, Boussandel's art consistently questions the movement of individuals across unstable territories, creating a continuous tension within his unique visual language.
