Marc Ressang's thoughts
What sparked your interest in art?
I'm not from a particularly artsy family background or had much of an active art environment growing up, but living in Belgium and the Netherlands there was always a lot of interesting (and weird) Catholic art around. I started off with drawing and photography as creative exercise and that continued into video.
Favorite artist or art movement?
I like artists that defy conventions, break traditions or reinvent a medium. My inspiration from art forms that I don’t do myself.
If you had unlimited resources, what does your dream exhibition look like?
It would be very installation-driven, with large, unwieldy setups that have no commercial value. Sculptural forms and very large display screens.
Whats one of the weirdest or funniest reaction someone has had to your art piece?
When my entire show got censored in China (although definitely not funny)
When do you decide that your piece is finished?
I tend to sit on my work for quite a long time. It’s finished when I’ve handed off control of the final output and it’s out for everyone to see.
Describe artistic style using 3 words what would they be?
subjective time + reality
Any everyday object into a work of art what would it be?
Flowers, and anything in nature that expresses their place in time
If your art could come to life what would it say?
Reality is what you want it to be
Most unusual thing you've used to create art?
I have recently been working with extremely long photo prints (around 5 meters). It becomes a challenge to find a good affordable printer and a way to display the art itself
