In this technology driven world, how does fashion fit in it?
For years now, the design world has been using CAD (computer-aided design) technology to help visualize the ideas we want to bring to reality.
It all started in the 1960s when the software was first invented. Though it was slow, technology eventually advanced, and by the 1980s, the CAD software started incorporating 3D modeling. Designers could finally see a virtual representation of what they wanted to create.
Today, fashion designers are using this technology to generate garments on digital models with different fabrics and textures. With exact measures and visualizations, designers can cut down on the trial and error of fitting garments, deciding which fabrics to use, and seeing the drape of the fabric on the human body before production. All of this can help with problems such as fabric waste and more sustainable material use.
